Gullett, Sanford & Robinson was established in 1942. Gullett Sanford Robinson & Martin was formed in 1986 with the merger of Martin & Cochran (est. 1957). Westlake, Marsden & Montgomery merged with the firm in 2003.

Regarded for many years as one of Nashville's most prominent law firms, GSRM is known for its tradition of legal scholarship and service.

For example, one of the firm’s founders was a Justice of the Supreme Court of Tennessee. GSRM’s former partners have served as Chief Judge of the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals and Chief Judge of the U.S. District Court of Middle Tennessee.

GSRM’s former partners have also received appointments to governmental positions, such as General Counsel to the United States Environmental Protection Agency, Attorney General of the State of Tennessee, and General Counsel to the Vice President of the United States.

The firm’s tradition of service continues today as members of the firm:

  • Author treatises and portions of the Tennessee Code
  • Present legal education seminars
  • Teach at the Nashville School of Law
  • Serve as leaders for the Nashville Bar Association Pro Bono Program
